Market

Dried spice, fish, dirt on vegetables
A faint scent of bleach
drifting above bubbling tanks
live lobsters and crabs cramped
in those tight corners

Last week I walked through the market
tearing up at the sight, smell, and sounds of
familiarity
Mando-pop blasting through low quality speakers
that crackle with the bass line

Wandered through every aisle
Touching products “Made in Taiwan”
seeing products labeled “Island”
as if that name make it taste better

What a great feeling
to be reunited with yourself
while being so physically distant
from where you grew up, your house

Today I walked in
and didn’t feel the same way.
it just comes and goes
Nostalgia
is unpredictable
